Jane Eyre

Last night I watched Jane Eyre (the recent 2011 version) with my roommate and I LOVED it! I'm a big sucker for English movies like Sense & Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Love Actually, Atonement, and now this is one is going to be added to my favorites.

I have yet to read the book (by Charlotte Bronte), but it's such a good love story! It's about a girl named Jane who has a rather sad childhood, both parents died and she's stuck with her aunt who is a conniving bitch! Anyway, her aunt sends her to boarding school, which is also awful, but she still turns out to be a respectful young lady. She gets work at house as a governess (fancy name for a nanny/teacher). To keep it short, she falls in love with the house owner/master Mr. Rochester who is played by the handsome Michael Fassbender (my new favorite Irish hottie!). He loves her so much, although at times he had a funny way of showing it. She loves him just as much, but something comes between them and you'll just have to watch it and see what happens!

Totally 80's Makeup!

Finally getting around to doing this post. I was so excited to use bright colors for my cousin's 80's party. Plus, I was lucky that Nymphettes FOTD Challenge Calendar for 8/13 was the day of my cousin's party, it was a win-win! LOL ... I was just going to do a super bright lip and some bright blush, but I rarely get to use colors like these so I just went for it. If you'd like to see pics from the party click here. Also, I must add that these pics are from when I got home, so I'm a little shiny from dancin' my ass off to some MJ, Wham!, Madonna, etc. :-) And needless to say, Sugarpill Cosmetics is amazing! Scroll down to see list of what I used ...

Totally 80's party!

My cousin had a pretty awesome 80's party, it was her 30th so she went all out! There was 80's music videos playing in the back yard, Aquanet in the bathrooms (and Gizmo, LOL), a photobooth with props, 80's posters all over the walls, and even arcades. It was a lot of fun! I'll be doing a separate post on my makeup soon :-D

80's videos

Aquanet, and fun pics on the mirror

Pac-Man!

My cousins and I (Birthday girl is in the Flashdance outfit).
My other cousin was a pregnant Tina Turner, LOL (she really is pregnant though :-)

My friend Salina and I.
I look gross in this pic but this is the only one I had of our full outfits...

A FEW CHANGES ...

(Just a silly pic of me visiting Solvang, CA)

My blog is no longer "Mozzarella & Makeup". I recently changed it to simply "Makeup a La Mode", to match my Facebook page and Twitter account. However, I just started a food only blog with two of my good friends. It's called "3 Chicks and a Food Blog". We'll be posting food from restaurants, recipes we love, and new recipes we discover. Each of us have different tastes, so it will be fun and all about food!

This blog will continue to be about makeup, books, and other things. Thanks to all of my followers who always take the time to comment and show my blog some love. Don't forget to enter my giveaway HERE. Have a great day!

FOTD Challenge - Gambit

I was really excited to do Comic Book day on Nymphette's August Challenge Calendar, because I grew going to comic book stores with my dad and sister. My dad was a big comic book collector so I am pretty familiar with lots of comic books characters. My sister and I also used to watch the old Batman cartoons that showcased a bunch of rare villains, but I know there are still a ton of characters I've never even heard of. Anyway, the X-Men are a personal favorite of mine. There are so many of them to choose from. I decided to go with one that doesn't get a lot of love, Gambit. Plus I loved the pic I found because he has hot pink in his costume :-D So here's what I came up with, based on the pic above ... (P.S. I'm just starting to learn to use this free photoshop program online, so bare with me :-)

"15 minute Face" and "I Never Wear This"

Nymphette has done another challenge calendar for the month of August, and I can't wait to do more looks. Monday's theme was "15 minute Face" and today's theme is "I Never Wear This". I kind of combined both today.

I don't want to be repetitive, but my Everyday Natural look is pretty much my "15 minute Face". However, here I went a bit heavier with the eyeliner, and I used a bright lipstick that I never wear, it's MAC Rose Maiden. It is a brightened up red-berry (a bit pinkish) with a frosty finish. Seems like it has a bit of a golden sheen to it. Not sure if its discontinued or not. I also used my NARS blush palette today, one of my faves!

Holy Butt Chin Batman!

C.O. Bigelow!

I hardly ever shop at Bath and Body works. I'm not a big fan of smelly lotions ... Jergens for me please! However, my cousin gave me a gift card a while back so I had to use it :-) I went the other day and got some shower gel, a candle, and this awesome lip balm! I'm crazy for chapsticks and lip balm, I always have to have some in my purse, or in my desk drawer at work.

Anyway, at B&B Works they have this brand of lip products by CO Bigelow. I've tried their Mentha Lip Shine in the past, but I wasn't a big fan of it, although it was nice and minty! It really wasn't bad, but I like products that actually provide moisture and healing (for example: Rosebud Salve). Anyway, I found this new product (new to me at least) by CO Bigelow called "My Favorite Night Balm": This overnight recovery lip balm works overtime, moisturizing and nourishing lips with rich Shea Butter for 8 hours, leaving them soft and smooth.

I LOVE THIS STUFF! All you need is a tiny amount, a little less than pea size. I apply right before going to sleep, and I can still feel the smoothness in the morning. This definitely helps if you wear lipsticks that tend to dry lips, for example matte lipsticks, or 'long lasting' lipsticks. Technically, it is always good to do a lip scrub, but if you don't have time to do that as often as you like, this is a great alternative!

Has anyone else tried other CO Bigelow products??

Back to the Future!

My cousin is having an 80's themed 30th birthday party in two weeks and I can't wait to dress up! Not sure how I should do my makeup though. I will kinda be rockin' the 80's rock type of look with an acid wash denim skirt, a Blondie t-shirt, crimped hair, some lace leggings (if I can find some cute ones for cheap), and some bright heels. Here are some pics I found online, what do you guys think??
Good ol' 80's Madonna, always a favorite!

Any other suggestions??
